Oulun yliopisto

Introduction

•  Everyone can study no matter of their educational background

•  Open University is a part of the University of Oulu

•  No entrance examinations

•  Studies are equivalent with the curriculum of the University of Oulu

One credit is approximately 27 hours of work. For example, one year of full time studying means an estimated 1600 hours of studying and 60 credits. However the concept of a credit doesn't automatically correspond to lectures. Studying can include lectures, group work, essays etc. and above all independent studying. In practice, the time that students use for studying varies greatly depending on their personal learning capabilities and working habits.

Mostly the Open University organises basic studies that value 25 credits and in some cases advanced studies that value 35 credits. In addition you take separate courses. However you can't take a degree in the Open University, but only parts of it. If you become a student in a university, you can include your studies at the Open University to your degree.
